How to file a useful bug report (and what we already know about)

Short version: post anything you see go wrong. We’d rather get ten “this seems weird” reports than miss the one that actually matters. We don’t bite.

If you want to make our life easier (and get a fix faster), here’s what helps.

What to include

Not all of these — just whatever you remember.

  1. What you were trying to do. “I was setting up a game night with three rounds” is enough.
  2. What happened instead. Be specific. “It froze” is hard for us to act on. “The Add Round button stopped responding after I added the third round” we can chase down in five minutes.
  3. What kind of device. Phone, tablet, laptop. Browser if you know it (Chrome, Safari, etc.).
  4. What screen you were on. The host dashboard? The TV display? The player view?
  5. A screenshot. If it’s visual, paste a screenshot. Just drag the file into the reply box and Discourse handles the rest.
  6. Anything you tried. “I refreshed and it came back” or “I had to restart the game” tells us how reproducible it is.

You don’t need all of this. Even just “the player view shows the wrong score after round 2” is a useful report. Don’t let the checklist stop you from posting.

Things that aren’t bugs

A few things we get asked about that are intentional:

  • The player view doesn’t auto-refresh after the host changes a question. We do it on purpose to avoid yanking a player’s screen mid-answer.
  • The “Powered by Trivia Fun” badge in the corner on the Starter plan. That’s a feature, not a bug — it disappears when you upgrade.
  • The room code stays the same week to week. Also intentional. Your regulars memorize it.

What we already know about

Things that are on our list and don’t need a new report (though seeing it again with new context is always useful):

  • Nothing currently on the public list. We’ll update this thread as known issues come up.

Anything else

If you’re not sure whether something is a bug or just confusing UX, post it anyway. Confusing UX is also a bug — it just happens to be the kind we fix in design instead of in code.
